🔗 Share this article Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends. The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a different programme. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session. Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the pit straight. The veteran ended the session in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver. Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than Piastri's best. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
